Summer Productivity Tips

It’s summer and everyone’s going on holiday, work feels like it’s slowing down and quite frankly you just want to be outside living your best life!

How do you stay productive and enjoy this lovely time of year?

Here are my top three tips:

  1. If you feel like you’re missing out on summer activities, it may be worth temporarily adjusting your working hours to accommodate for extended midday breaks. This can look like, starting your day earlier so that you can take a few hours off in the middle of the day and then working a bit into the early evening. Or you can power through from an early start and use the extra time in the late afternoon to do your outdoor activities. The early sunrise means that it may be easier to wake up earlier and be productive. The late nights mean that it’s not so terrible to work a bit later in the day because 8pm appears to be the new 5pm.

  2. If you struggle with adjusting to the temperature changes and feel extra sluggish during the day, make sure to schedule in something, in your breaks throughout the day, that will help you to recharge. A power walk, a short workout that you can watch on YouTube, a trip to your favourite midweek lunch or beverage spot. Anything to break up the day a bit! It’s an added bonus if it gets some air in your lungs and healthily increases your heart rate. Instead of fighting the midday slump, get up and actively do something about it. Also, make sure to stay well hydrated!

  3. Have things outside of work to look forward to! That could be a holiday at the end of summer, a weekly class or social gathering you have joined or a course you’ve booked to start at the end of the month. This helps you have a different perspective of the week as there is something that you are feeling good about doing as opposed to you feeling like you’re missing out on things because you’re busy working over the summer. Who says your day has to end at 5pm, and who says you have to wait until the weekend to have some fun! Utilise the extra daylight, and energy you may gain from this, to make the most of your summer.

The most important thing is to keep going! You may have a week where you don’t get through as much work as normal, but each week is a new chance to try again. Remember that everything has its ebbs and flows and you’re not a failure if you keep trying.

I hope you have a great summer, I’d love to hear about what you’re looking forward to!
